Epoxy Curing 2-Dimethylaminoethanol

Product Description
2-Dimethylaminoethanol (DMEA)
2-Dimethylaminoethanol (DMEA, CAS 108-01-0) is a bifunctional aliphatic amine-alcohol (structure: (CH₃)₂NCH₂CH₂OH) used broadly as an intermediate and functional raw material. It combines nucleophilic tertiary-amine reactivity with a primary/secondary alcohol moiety, making it suitable for surfactant synthesis, epoxy and polyurethane curing systems, corrosion-inhibitor precursors and other specialty chemical routes.
Also known as:
2-Dimethylaminoethanol; N,N-Dimethylethanolamine; DMEA; N,N-Dimethyl-2-hydroxyethylamine
Storage & Handling
Store in original, tightly closed containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from oxidizers and acids. Protect from heat, open flame and ignition sources; keep containers upright and sealed to avoid moisture pickup and odor release. Handling controls: closed transfer, local exhaust ventilation, splash protection and chemical-resistant gloves; refer to the lot SDS for emergency procedures and PPE specifications. Note: product is flammable and classified for transport (UN 2051).
Application
  • Surfactant intermediates and quaternization feedstock
Used to produce tertiary-amine surfactants and quaternary ammonium salts via alkylation/quaternization pathways.
  • Epoxy and polyurethane curing / accelerator
Functions as a tertiary-amine catalyst/accelerator and reactive modifier in curing systems for adhesives, coatings and composites.
  • Corrosion inhibitor and water-treatment precursors
Used as a building block for amine-based corrosion inhibitors and chelating ligands for industrial water treatment formulations.
  • Fine-chemical and agrochemical intermediate
Employed in multi-step syntheses where bifunctional amine-alcohol reactivity is required (intermediates, protected derivatives).
  • Process solvent / pH-adjusting additive in formulations
Used in select formulations as a polar co-solvent or pH-adjustment agent where basicity and alcohol functionality are beneficial.
  • Analytical and laboratory reagent
Supplied in small packs for R&D, method development and QC sampling.
