Sea freight returns to rationality in 2022
In the past 10 years before 2019, the sea freight for a 40-foot container from China to the western United States was only about $2,000. However, in the past two short years, the sea freight for the same container has risen to 20,000 US dollars, and many shippers have to work hard to grab space.
However, after the Spring Festival this year, sea freight has been falling until now. In the past four months, sea freight has basically halved from a high of $18,000 this year to around $8,000 now.
According to North America's Terminal Congestion Index, the index will gradually improve from 2022. The average wait time for ships at the Port of Los Angeles was about 2.7 days, according to the data, a significant reduction from the previous two-week congestion.
It is expected that the freight will stabilize in the future. CIF predicts that chemical prices will continue to cool in 2022.
