BDO production capacity is growing rapidly. The full name of BDO is 1,4-butanediol, which belongs to the C4 industry chain.
As an intermediate, it is mainly used in the production of PTMEG (52%), PBT (26%) and γ-butyrolactone (15%). End consumption involves multiple industries such as clothing and textiles, medicine, plastics, solvents and battery auxiliary materials.
The mainstream production processes in China are the acetylenic aldehyde method and the maleic anhydride method, accounting for 95% and 5% of the production capacity respectively. It can be found from the acetylenic aldehyde process that since the production of BDO is inseparable from calcium carbide and methanol, the main production capacity is concentrated in areas rich in coal resources. The combined production capacity of Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia and Ningxia accounts for more than 70% of the country.
Currently, Xinjiang’s BDO production capacity reaches 1.234 million tons, ranking first in the country.
